Reading meme

It's been a while since I did one of Berry's Monday Meme! While I love doing them, I don't always feel like I have enough to say on the subject selected to warrant my own blogpost. And also most of the time I'm lazy.

This week however, we are talking about books which is a huge part of my life!

Are you a bookworm? A most definite yes. Like many, when I grew older, and with the arrival of the Internet, I have stopped reading as much as I did, but it still has a huge place in my life. In fact, I consider them my first immersive experiences away from the real world before worlds like Second Lives added a whole new dimension to it.
Which do you prefer: hardcover, paperback or electronic? I do not differentiate particularly between hardcover and paperback but I do prefer them to electronic. Reading a book, feeling the pages and getting to turn them with excitement at what the next would reveal, that is the true feeling of reading to me. Funnily enough, I very rarely buy books anymore unless it's on my kindle, the reasons being practical ones: I just don't have enough room for books where I live and because it's so much easier and cheaper to buy books in English that way.
Which book is your favorite? That is a very hard question and one that I always have issues answering. I will for example go back and read some books a lot but I would not consider them my favorites and, more often than not, they are simply guilty pleasures. In truth, I have read so many books in my life I cannot simply pick one from the many excellent ones.
Which children’s book is your favorite? While I was and still am a HUGE Harry Potter fan, I'd say that another serie had a bigger impact on me: His Dark Materials. Please, if all you know of those books is the movie they made from the first one, I urge you to go read them. The subjects raised in those stories about growing up echoed deeply within me as I was about the age of the protagonists when I read the books. Aside from that, the book's ending had such an impact on me that I was truly sad for days. It might not seem like a long time, but remember how easily you were distracted as a kid! I even got to writing a different ending (terrible) that I would carry around with me and read when I felt sad!
What’s the last book you’ve read? Not a book, but I have been reading the Walking Dead comics recently
Name your top five favorite writers: Stephen King, Agatha Christie, Maupassant, J.K. Rowling (try out her other book, The Casual Vacancy, it's really good) and Emile Zola
Name a book that had a strong impact on you: I think the answer would be the same that question 4. Like I said, I read a lot of books, and I am easily connected to the stories. However, my memory is dreadful and yet I always remember the impact those books had on me.
Favorite & least favorite book genres? Favorite would definitely be thriller/horror (even if I'm scared to sleep afterwards). I do not think I have a least favorite aside perhaps for poetry. I do not hate it, simply that I find it harder to fawn over the beauty eveyone else seems to see in most cases.
Favorite & least favorite book-to-movie adaptions? Favorite adaptations would be the Bridget Jones diaries. Those are very far from the true content of the books and yet, I found them just as entertaining. Least favorite would be Twilight. I put those books in my guilty pleasure columns and, while the writing in itself was horrendous, I still enjoyed the story. Mostly. The movies on the other hand...
Have you ever bought a book based on the cover alone? Yes
Where do you usually buy your books? Nowadays, mostly on the Kindle
Do you go to the library? I used to go a LOT with my mom when I was young to always get new books but not so much now.
How many books do you own? Oh boy, I recently sold a lot of them, but I still have some scattered all over. In truth I have no clue but it's definitely a number higher than 1 000.
If you were to write a book about Second Life, which topic would you focus on? The link between Second Life and the evolution of our mentalities regarding social interactions.

Monday Meme - Halloween Meme

So this week Strawberry had us do a Halloween meme! Rules are below:

The picture above is the first part of the meme and obviously I got a tad carried away with the editing but I like it! I usually try to keep the Photoshop in my pics light, but the outfit/theme demanded more today.

Sadly Halloween is not a very popular event in France but I will try to reply to the questions as best as I can:

Did you go trick or treating as a child? As I said, Halloween isn't popular in France so, aside from the student parties, Halloween is not celebrated. So no candy for kiddie Esmeralda!
What was the best Halloween costume you ever saw or wore yourself? My memories are fuzzy since, like I said, student parties, but I had one of my friend once dress as The Fat Joker. I was dying of laughter every time I saw him!
What is your most vivid memory about Halloween? Dancing with a mummy who then tripped on its costume!
What is the scariest movie you have ever seen? I am a complete wuss and somehow I still LOVE watching scary movies. I think the one that had me the most scared however would be a toss-up between The Ring, The Grudge and The Descent. I think I'll go with The Descent, simply because I got dragged into seeing it without having any clue about the plot and I was so surprised I yelled in the theater.
Do you ever get nightmares after watching a scary movie? Always. And even as a 25 years old I still sleep with the lights on after some of them...
Are you superstitious? If so, name at least one superstition of yours. Strangely enough, no.
What will you be doing for Halloween this year, if anything, in SL and RL? Supposed to be going to a party in RL and probably will take more pictures in SL!

Monday's Meme - Memeception

So the Monday Meme Strawberry offered to do this week was so fun that I couldn't resist doing it. Two weeks in a row! I might become a proper blogger yet! Anyhoo, I'll get back to the meme later on but first let me explain my outfit today.

You might have gathered from my last post that Esmeralda got hurt in a recent roleplay so I am having her recover at home and therefore, not really roleplaying. Which means I don't have to dress up with my usual urban style! One exploration of my 'New Stuff' folder later to get the things I don't usually wear and... Voila! This outfit :D

I tried to stick with a space kinda theme, to fit the meme I was going for but I was kinda enthusiastic!

My favorite meme ever is the Nothing To Do Here meme, simply because we actually like to mimic it in RL with my friends when a topic gets awkward and it suddenly lights up the mood as we start laughing like loons. So I simply couldn't resist using it now!

Monday Meme - Inventory Madness!

It's been a while since I have done one of the Monday Meme from Strawberry so I thought I'd give it a try this week. The one Strawberry posted today is regarding windlight settings, but since most of the ones I use are actually hers, I thought I'd go dig around for one of the old ones she posted and I didn't get to do.

So without further ado, I give you... The inventory challenge!

Now, those who know me know that I keep a pretty tight ship inventory wise (which is strange considering how messy my apartment can get in comparison in RL), so I couldn't pass up the chance to post my version of this meme.

What is your current inventory number? 10 750 item - I inventory clean very often! I recently got rid of all the non mesh clothes I had except for a few tops that go well under mesh jackets and some outfits/avatars that still look good.

If you had to delete your whole inventory and could only keep one thing, what would it be? I think it would be a customized bear someone did for me :)

What is the last thing you purchased? Clothes! Gah! Like most in SL I have the shopping bug, but I try to rein it in with a 'New Stuff' folder where I put all the new things I purchased so I can wear them at least once before sorting them in my inventory. I try to have the folder grow smaller before I allow myself to go shopping again. Of course some things are hard to resist (*cough* Arcade *cough* Fameshed *cough*)

Which item do you wear most often? I think if I had to go for the oldest I have owned and worn on my avatar it would be the Devol tattoo I always wear. That store did amazing tattoos and I'm so happy I bought this one so many years back. It has been on my avatar forever!

When you search for the word penis, how many items pop up? (NO LYING!) Now this comes as a shock to me, but only one item pops up! My amazing Aircraft Penis! *gives it a spin and flies away from this post LIKE A BOSS!*
